Description

The H3 varietal was planted in 2015, and is a cross between Caturra and an Ethiopian landrace accession. Cherries are picked by hand as very ripe, before drying at a consistent low temperature in two stages to create the fruity characteristics.

Hacienda Santa Luz, acquired in 2003, was once an abandoned plot of land that has since flourished into a beacon of sustainable coffee farming. The farm was transformed with a long-term vision focused on ecological and social responsibility. By replanting diverse coffee varieties and establishing a professional farm organization, Hacienda Santa Luz not only revitalized its coffee production but also committed to environmentally friendly practices.

Spanning 105 hectares of fertile land, the farm is Rainforest Alliance certified, ensuring that its expansion prioritizes sustainability over environmental degradation. By cultivating high-yielding and disease-resistant varietals such as Pink Bourbon, SL28, and Centroamericano, the farm boosts productivity without compromising the surrounding ecosystem. Additionally, an eco-friendly processing plant was built to minimize its environmental footprint, and 30 hectares of the land are preserved as forest, contributing to local biodiversity.

The farm benefits from the unique microclimate of the Matagalpa mountains, which, under the expert management of CEO Ricardo Herrera and General Manager Marco Tulio Gonzalez, allows the team of 50 permanent workers and 400 seasonal pickers to grow exceptional coffee. Herrera’s extensive experience from Colombia and Costa Rica, combined with Gonzalez’s industrial engineering background, adds a layer of innovation that enhances both the quality and efficiency of production.

By choosing Hacienda Santa Luz, you support not only the delicious, complex flavors of sustainably grown coffee but also a farm that champions environmental conservation and fair labor practices.
